RUMBLE 2024GRAPHIC DESIGN, DIGITAL MARKETING

Branding development and graphic design for RUMBLE 2024, UCLA Architecture + Urban Design’s annual year-end exhibition.

In response to the broader campus climate during last year’s event, Rumble’s branding and identity underwent a careful evolution. While the exhibition has historically embraced themes of dialogue, exchange, and transformation, the decision was made to soften its visual and conceptual cues, shifting away from motifs that might evoke tension or disruption. The title itself was subtly reinterpreted, maintaining a quiet connection to its legacy while allowing space for a more open-ended reading. This adjustment reflected a commitment to ensuring the event remained an inclusive and reflective space—one that continues to highlight the depth and breadth of student work while remaining attuned to the context in which it unfolds.

COVER DEVELOPMENT

The final design subtly conceals the event’s title, maintaining a quiet yet intentional nod to its legacy while drawing stylistic elements from this year’s event series branding.

Using a pared-down palette of two colors, the new RUMBLE branding embraces simplicity while still making a strong visual impact. The design draws from familiar shapes and stylistic elements established in the event series’ broader identity, creating a sense of continuity while adapting to the evolving context. This approach allows the branding to remain recognizable yet understated, reinforcing the exhibition’s focus on the work itself rather than overt thematic cues.
